Michele Bachelet Presidente!!

Le 20 août dernier, se déroulait à Santiago du Chili, la proclamation officielle de candidature au nom de la Concertation de Michèle Bachelet, socialiste, à la Présidence de la République du Chili.

Sur le Blog de Juan-Pablo Pallamar, président des Jeunes Socialistes du Chili, vous trouverez le discours de notre ami Juan-Pablo qui s'exprimait au nom de son organisation. Il insista dans son discours sur la construction d'un authentique processus de participation de la Jeunesse pour régler le problème du chômage, de la pauvreté et des discriminations. Et évidemment pour apporter tout son soutien à Michèle.

After "La Rochelle", the summer university of PS-MJS

During three days, the socialists organized in La Rochelle our summer university. 2500 socialists and between them, 350 members of MJS were there to listen debates organized by MJS about "Republic at the time of Sarkozysme", about employement, and about the French policy in Africa in which i was speaker.

Details of the program

It is quite difficult to have this kind of debate about "Françafrique" in a socialist meeting and it is quite new for the socialists, strongly involved in the past in these policies, and not always in the best way... But a lot of socialists really wanted to debate this issue and we received a lot of greetings to have organized this debate.

Our debate focused on the necessity to get out of this system and to change French policy in Africa. It has to be one of the focus point for the next general elections for the socialist candidate. More democratic control of the Parliament, renegotiation of the military agreements with the African countries, a European view of the policy in Africa, to put an end to the support of dictorships and non-democratical "electoral" processes, a strong reform of the public aid... These points were raised by the different speakers Guillaume Fine, secretary general of Survie, Guy Labertit, national delegate on African issues in PS, and me.

It was very interesting to meet the NGO Survie. It was the first time they speak in a socialist meeting. And we strongly want to strenghten the cooperation between our two organizations. We proposed our help in their will to build a European network (in the European Parliament) to change the policy towards Africa. In the closing ceremony, David Lebon, MJS France president began his speech with strong critics on French Policy in Africa. The struggle against "Françafrique" will be one of the main political point we will push inside PS.

For the second time, we also organized in La Rochelle a report of the international activities of MJS France. We present the campaign "For another constitution" and the report of the MJS France delegation in the last ECOSY summer camp. We also present the Global Progressive Forum in which 40 MJS France members will participate. During this meeting, Mathieu Rouveyre, Responsible of MJS Bordeaux introduce their action in India.

FEMINISM...I went in the iusy summer school especially for the feminism working group.Each day we had three work times.In the morning,we have workshop three hours on different topics,for example we spoke about "Enhancing the position of women".In this workshop,we compared the situation of women in different countries : their economic situation,poverty,unemployment,the place of women in the culture,politics situation...but also prostitution or aborption. We could see that the prostitution is legal in country like Netherlands; there are a few women in our parlement,about only 15% in all the world;women represent 70% of poor people,70% of analphabets...50% of the women know physic violence in their life.So, women are the first victim of injustice about power,payment,jobs and works etc.An other workshop was about"women trafficking".We discusses about stories of women victim of it,especially on sexual trafficking in Europe;we spoke about worldwilde situation and presented the last iusy campaign."women ..not for sale".Unfortunetely,we observed that we don't use enough the Iusy campaign.It was frustrating because we didn't have time to speak about solutions and perspectives for this topic.Each time,we maked a general presentation,received some documents,divided us in smaller groups,and finally maked a general presentation an open our mind...In a second time,each afternoon we must integrate one media working group,in the aim to have a project at the end of the week.I went in the video working group: the topic was:Feminism and poverty.This year the Iusy wanted to developp this question.We wrote a script,prepared how we will organize this movie.The video insists on the fact that poverty must go away.We made some interview,of Iusy presidium menbers but although of most organisations about different questions:1)What is poverty for you?2)Do you think women are more poor than the men ? Why?3)What is the situation in your country?Politics,jobs,culture...Eventually,most of people said that this phenomen will change with education of women an men.Sometimes,we had strange reactions and comments,the situation of women in Russia is ok,they easily do anything exept in the rural areas..other opinion : the prostitution is a problem but in the same time it exits since ever...and some feminist think feminism for all! Sometimes it was difficult to spoke the same politic language,because it was more in the slogans than to search of political solutions.At the end,we can say that feminism end poverty are socialist fighting.Elsa Pelloie

Tous au Forum Progressiste Mondial avec le MJS!

Du 8 au 11 septembre prochain, se tient à Milan (Italie) la deuxième édition du Global Progressive Forum. Ce forum a été crée par l'Internationale Socialiste et le PSE en novembre 2003 pour créer un espace de discussion avec les ONG et les syndicats et renforcer les liens avec les forums sociaux. Les débats se concentreront autout de l'avenir de l'Afrique, de la lutte contre le SIDA, de la réforme des organisations internationales, de la pauvreté, du travail décent..

Le MJS organise une formule tout compris (bus + logement + inscription au forum) avec le soutien de ECOSY et de la IUSY.

Plusieurs visions existent du forum progressiste mondial. Nous considérons que cet outil doit être utilisé pour renforcer la présence des socialistes au sein des forums sociaux. D'autres considèrent que le forum progressiste mondial doit être une alternative à ces forums sociaux. Ce forum progressiste mondial verra la création d'un "global progressive youth forum" (structure jeune du FPM). Le MJS aura donc une responsabilité particulière pour assurer que cette nouvelle structure fasse un lien effectif avec les forums sociaux.

For another French Policy in Africa

Next week, on saturday 27th august, in the summer university of the Socialist Party and the MJS in La Rochelle, i am a speaker in a plenary about the relations between France and Africa, together with Guillaume Fine, secretary general of the association Survie and Guy Labertit, national delegate of PS on african issues.

A MJS Gironde (Bordeaux) delegation in India

The local structure of MJS Gironde organize during 3 weeks a mission of international solidarity in the Community Seva Center (Pondichery). 4 comrades are there to help the workers of the center in the tasks of reconstruction after the Tsunami. They also participate to different missions of rural development and non-formal education in the region.

This morning they met several ministers and MPs of the regions of Pondichery to discuss and exchange on their vision of globalization and economic and social developments. One of the main topic of the discussions were the pharmaceutical patterns and the need to allow more easily the production of cheap drugs. They try to change a law voted this year limiting the copy of medicines.

With their political vision, this mission is a good example of the constant needs of a mix between international solidarity and politics.

Un Chile mas democratico!

Lagos destaca aprobación de reformas a Constitución de Pinochet16 de Agosto de 2005, Santiago de Chile, 16 ago (EFE).- El presidente chileno, Ricardo Lagos, afirmó hoy que Chile "se ha reencontrado con su historia y su espíritu libertario", al aprobar el Parlamento la reforma de la Constitución impuesta por Augusto Pinochet en 1980.

La droite chilienne s'y était opposé pendant 15 ans, la Gauche vient enfin de modifier la constitution pour la rendre plus démocratique. Le poste de sénateur à vie est supprimé. Cela permettait notamment à Pinochet de préserver son immunité et à la droite de garder un pouvoir de nuisance au Parlement. La démocratie avance au Chili...

Ricardo Lagos, qui cessera d'être président du Chili en décembre prochain, a joué un grand rôle dans cette victoire. Le mouvement continuera si Michèle Bachelet, socialiste et candidate de la Concertation (coalition de centre-gauche) gagne les élections en décembre prochain. La concertation affirme qu'une nouvelle réforme constitutionnelle sera proposée pour changer le mode de scrutin aujourd'hui excluant une large partie du spectre politique (notamment une partie de la gauche) de la représentation nationale.

The Disengagement plan of Gaza must be a first step, not the end of a process

In the next days, Israel will put in place its unilateral plan of disengagement in Gaza. 8000 settlers will be evacuated. For us, our first priority was to ensure Israel will evacuate Gaza and coordinate the disengagement with the Palestinian Authority. We support the Israeli Left involved in the support of this plan. But the day just after the disengagement, the left has to push for a global agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians. We cannot accept the strategy of Sharon, giving up Gaza to preserve the settlements in West Bank. The Young Meretz-Yahad already prepare public actions together with the Palestinians to push for global negotiations. It is very important.

MJS France continue to support the Geneva agreement as a model of global agreement and a basis for sustainable peace in the region. Two peoples, two states with Jerusalem as the capital of the two states. The end of occupation in West Bank and the respect of the frontiers of 1967.

We will continue our involvement in the regions together with our partners in the region : Fatah Youth, Labour Youth and Young Meretz-Yahad.

Crise alimentaire au Niger et au Mali : faire face à l'urgence mais pas seulement

La famine menace le Niger (3.5 millions de personnes menacés selon l'ONU) et le Mali. La communauté internationale a réagi tardivement alors que la catastrophe alimentaire était prévisible du fait de l'absence de pluies et surtout de l'invasion des crickets il y a quelques mois. Aujourd'hui, la réponse d'urgence est une nécessité. Le PAM a augmenté son aide, les ONG se démènent sur le terrain.

En tant que socialistes, notre vision ne doit pas s'arréter à cette gestion de l'urgence. Le problème fondamental reste la question du sous-développement. Toutes ces questions sont liées au modèle de développement, à la mondialisation telle qu'elle se construit aujourd'hui. Et la réponse au sous-développement ne peut-être qu'humanitaire. Elle est aussi, parfois même surtout, politique. Nous demandons une profonde réforme et une augmentation de l'aide publique au développement. Nous demandons une refonte du système commercial international. Nous demandons la mise en place d'une taxation internationale pour financer le développement.

Mais nous assurons aussi les organisations de jeunes socialistes du Niger et du Mali (Organisation de Jeunesse du Taraya, Niger ; Jeunesse ADEMA, Jeunesse RPM, Jeunesse PARENA au Mali) de toute notre solidarité et nous nous mettons à leur disposition pour les aider.

IUSY summer school and ECOSY seminar

ECOSY organizes in Werftpfuhl (Germany) a seminar on Social Europe. It will be for us an opportunity to promote a Social Treaty in order to organize the social convergence among all European countries. ECOSY already adopted a resolutionproposed by MJS France in favour of a Social Treaty

At the same time, IUSY organizes its Summer School. The three networks (LGBT, feminist and students) will organize distinct seminars on the issue of sustainable development. Elsa Pelloie, Benoit Curinier and Pierre Pontet will represent MJS.

Congrès de la SSU (jeunes sociaux-démocrates suédois)

Juste de retour du camp d'été, me voici reparti en Suède pour représenter le MJS France au congrès de la SSU qui se tenait à Linkoping.

A noter l'adoption d'une résolution en faveur des 6 heures quotidiennes de travail. L'idée de la réduction du temps de travail progresse chez nos amis suédois!

ECOSY summer camp

The last ECOSY Summer camp took place in Figueira Da Foz, Portugal, hosted by the comrades of Juventude Socialista (JS Portugal).

After the no in France and in Netherlands, it was very important for us to push the issue of the renegotiation, strongly asked by the French citizens. The MJS delegation (more than 80 people) were there, with their T-Shirt "foranotherconstitution", their leaflets and their will to debate with all the European young socialists. It was for us the official launching of our European campaign http://www.foranotherconstitution.org/ with the support of the comrades of Labour Youth (Ireland), SJO (Young Socialists of Austria) and JUSO (Switzerland). Of course, other organizations can join this campaign!

Un grand bravo à tous les camarades de la délégation du MJS France qui ont effectué pendant ce camp un travail formidable.

As Pedro Nuno, secretary general of JS Portugal, said : "the time has come to build an European alternative".

Of course, it was difficult to convince the comrades, especially the ones coming from a country that already ratified the constitution. But our message is clear: we have to respect the opinion of the countries that ratified the constitution such as the ones that rejected it. And now we have to move on. Lets use this opportunity to fight for a better constitution, to build the social, federal and democratic Europe we call for!
