Local elections in France: Huge victory for the left

It was the first elections after the General elections last year. 10 months after the victory of Nicolas Sarkozy, the Left clearly won the local elections. The Right lose 38 large cities. François Hollande, learder of the Socialist Party, considered before the vote, that these elections would be a success for the opposition in the case of a victory in 30 cities. Toulouse, Strasbourg, Reims are now governed by the Left. Large victories also in Lille, with the former minister of employment Martine Aubry (66%) and Bertrand Delanoé in Paris (57%). We can also note the defeat of ministers: Darcos (Education) in Perigueux, Yade (Human Rights) in Colombe, Lagarde (Economy) and Albanel (culture) in Paris. Other fact: the electoral failure of MODEM, the new center party of François Bayrou. This party decided to make alliance au-cas-par-cas, with the left in Marseille, with the right in Toulouse or alone in Pau or Paris. The result? François Bayroy lose in Pau, the center in Paris will only have one seat in the council of Paris. The opposition considers it is clearly a sanction against the policy of the governement but the governement already declared that they will continue and foster the reforms..
