Walid Joumblatt menacé par les Syriens

Walid Joumblat, leader du Parti Socialiste Progressiste Libanais, est menacé par les autorités syriennes, ne supportant pas ses déclarations demandant la fin de toutes les ingérences au Liban. Un tribunal militaire syrien souhaite en effet le convoquer pour "mise en danger de l'Etat Syrien". On croit réver. Les méthodes d'intimidation continuent. IUSY Condemns threats to PSP Lebanon Leader Walid Jumblatt

IUSY expressed its serious concern about the deterioration of relation between Lebanon and Syria, which is hampering efforts to quell the climate of fear within the Lebanese society.
On Monday 22nd May 2006, a Syrian Military Magistrate issued an arrest warrant to detain prominent PSP leader Walid Jumblatt. The warrant demands that Jumblatt be brought before a Syrian military court to face questioning on charges of having slandered and incited hatred against Damascus.
The Syrian warrant against Jumblatt was handed to Interpol after the Lebanese government ignored an earlier Syrian demand for the Democratic Gathering bloc leader's arrest.
Telecommunication Minister Marwan Hamadeh, Mr Jumblatt's close aide in the government and one of the main figures of Jumblatt’s Parliamentary Bloc who survived a bomb attack two years ago had also been called to appear before a Syrian military court.
On the 25th May the Government of Lebanon issued a strong statement in full support of Walid Jumblatt. IUSY very much welcomes this move by the Lebanese authorities.
IUSY condemns the ongoing use of threats and intimidation by the Syrian regime and urges it to stop these actions immediately. Moreover, it calls upon the regime to comply with international resolutions and engage in a concrete dialogue on the basis of mutual respect, with the Lebanese Government in order to ensure a peaceful resolution to ensuring freedom sovereignty and independence for Lebanon and its people.
