Rights@work : more rights for trade unions

La CISL (Confédération Internationale des Syndicats Libres) a sorti la semaine dernière son rapport sur les violations des libertés syndicales dans le Monde. Et les violations sont toujours aussi nombreuses. Ci-dessous la déclaration de la IUSY.

The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions published on Wednesday 7th of June their annual survey on violations of trade union rights. Still in 2005, 115 trade unionists were killed for defending workers rights, and more than 1700 were detained. Trade unionists are always in the first line to defend social progress and fight against injustice. IUSY wants to reaffirm its strong solidarity with the labour movement and our strongest condemnation of all violations of trade unions and labour rights. All governments and employers must understand the need for social dialogue and respect of workers right.

For young people, trade unions are more than necessary. This generation is the first victim of precarious policies, of unemployment, of deteriorated working conditions, of human rights abuses in the working place. That’s why we emphasize the strong importance of trade unions. Activism of trade unionists is very often the best way to ensure the protection of labour and social rights and ensure decent work for all.
We are also strongly concerned by the specific repression against women. In the public sector or in export processing zones, textiles or electronics factories, women are the first victims of violations of labour rights. The exploitation of migrant workers is also a worrying problem. Employers use their vulnerability by violating labours rights for financial gains. Governments have to pay specific attention to the protection of their rights.

Labour rights violations is not limited to dictatorships or in the poorest countries. It is a worldwide problem manifest on all continents. Governments must assume all their responsibility in this matter. In Colombia, 77 trade unionists were murdered this year. Colombian government is directly responsible of this. We ask the international community to strongly condemn this and to take appropriate actions if the violence against trade unionist do not stop immediately. In China, repression continue and the pressure of international community is more than ever necessary. European Union should use the renegotiation of a bilateral trade agreement with China to put respect of human rights, labour standards and trade unions rights at the top of their concerns.

The violation of trade unions rights is the consequences of social dumping and neo-liberal competition. IUSY fights for another globalisation based on social rights. Trade unions rights, freedom of association and the right of collective bargaining are at the core of this policy.
Young Socialists will campaign all over the World in favour of Decent Work for all. All governments and international organizations must put these principles at the top of their priorities. RIGHTS@WORK!
