Live in La Rochelle! Conference on Lebanon

I'm in La Rochelle for the Summer university of the French Socialists since yesterday. For the opening of the university of MJS, i chaired a conference on Lebanon with Tarek Yehia (PYO-PSP, Lebanon) and Yoan Sivan (Young Meretz-Israël). Yoav spoke about the position of MERETZ, the only political forces in Israel that called for an immediate ceassfire before the adoption of UN resoltion 1701. He also mentioned the proposal of Yossi Beilin to organize a new Madrid conference with all countries of the region to launch a new process in order to find a global solutions solving all the problems. One basis of the discussion can be the Peace Plan proposed by the Arab League in 2002. Tarek explained the roots of the conflict and the links with the Palestinian struggle. He also mentioned the debate within the lebanese concerning the role of Hezbollah.
Debate was too short. We were pressed by the program and the coming of Laurent Fabius just after our debate. Nevetheless, a first approach and debate between israeli and lebanese comrades since the "cessation of hostilities". Lets see what kind of follow-up we can do..
