The party of Law and Justice (conservative, right-wing) won the legislative elections with 27.6%. The liberals won 25% of the votes and will participate to a coalition with the conservatives. The SLD (Social Democrats) arrives in third position with almost 12%.
Populists and the party of family (extreme-right) won respectively 10% and 8% of the votes. Jaroslaw Kaczynski will probably be the next prime minister. His twin is candidate for the presidential elections that will take place in two weeks.
These elections were very difficult for the Left, after 4 years at the government. The candidate of the party for the presidential elections withdraw one week ago. The SLD decided to focus on the legislative elections. They will become the first party of opposition and we hope the party will find again as soon as possible the polical support of the citizens. It will be possible with a clear political line on the Left and a strong opposition against the Right. There is a political space for the Left, but the citizens ask for more social protections and not new neo-liberal policies. This, also, can explain the very low turn-out of the elections.
The bad news also is to see the Party of Law and Justice arriving in first position. This party is very conservative, very religious. They also want the return of the death penalty... We will have to follow the evolutions and will support our political partner, the FMS (youth organization of FMS) in their work of opposition.
