Estelle Goeger, MJS France national secretary on European Issues and new ECOSY Bureau Member was in Werftpfhul for Euro-Vision Seminar.
"Yesterday I had the great pleasure to participate in a round table on the EU Constitution in Werftpfhul, where the Falken are hosting their annual Euro-Vision seminar in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The seminar brings together aktivists from socialist youth organisations of the new member countries and the Balkans to discuss enlargement and EU.
The speakers of the round table I attended were Rhonda Donaghey, Trade Union Official from Ireland and Sonja Lokar, CEE Network for Gender Issues Coordinator from Slovenia. My input aimed at explaining the French debate during the referendum campaign and the Socialist Party's position and divisions. I also explained why MJS opposed the Constitution and our current campaign for another Constitution. At the end of the discussion Sonja told me that even though she didn't agree with me, she considered that our motherparties and political leaders deserved the French vote for having failed in the last 20 years. She said that we all needed this kick in the ass to find the right direction. This statement made me confident for the future, because it shows that we can learn from past divisions and elaborate common strategies for the left in Europe.
I also took the chance to discuss the German elections with the Falken comrades, who seemed to be as confused as everybody else in the wake of the results. And we came to the same conclusion as Sonja concerning the Constitution: the Linkspartei vote was a kick ass message to German social democracy. Something that has to be taken into account and can't just be ignored... "
