In Serbia, SDP left the governement. The SDP ran into conflict with Kostunica over the proposal of privatization of the state-run Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), as called for by the International Monetary Fund.
We are very worried about some negotiations between SDP and the SPS (Slobodan Milosevic party). According to www.europeanforum.net , Covic the SDP party leader told "it is possible our two parties can be transformed to one party named Social Democratic Party". For an organization member of SI and a youth organization member of IUSY, it is a main subject of concern. We hope SDP will clarify as soon as possible its position on this point.

In an interview published in Ticker Online on 24 July SDP party leader Nebosja Covic said that SDP is negotiating with Slobodan Milosevic’s Socialist Party of Serbia to form a party. According to Blic online on 28 July, SPS high officials Ivica Dacic, Milomir Minic and Zoran Andjelkovic are leading the negotiations.
The main obstacle for the SDP is said to be the hardliners in SPS. However, Covic said that there are also good people in the party and stated, “ I think it is possible our two parties can be transformed to one

Now, SDY in SDP is a full member of IUSY and SDY in SDU an observer. MJS France fully supports the full membership of SDY in SDU inside IUSY.
