So this week-end, i was in Kiev for the European Committee. I have to tell you maybe the most instructive debate of this week-end, it was maybe the debate on the Ukrainian political situation. Our friends there, SMS (the Union of Young Socialists) explain very well the situation (Thanks to Yelena for that), very far from the "romantic point of view" raised by some of us after the orange revolution. The social-democrats are the third force in Ukraine, but want to focus on the social policies and againts the neo-liberal process leaded by Iouchtchenko and the former prime minister Tymoncheko. For them, the political battle between Ioutchtchenko and Typonchenko is nothing less than a battle for the control of the power and the financial ressources. But we don't have to forget that politically, they aggree, they are neo-liberals. And for the moment, the fight against corruption is not very clear. We hope that Yelena, the international secretary of SMS will be able to attend the MJS Congress in order to explain to all the political delegates the political situation!
We had also some very interesting discussion on the situation in the Balkans, in Bielorussia, in Turkey... And of course a report of the last elections in Poland, Germany, Norway, Bulgaria. If you want more info on one of these debates, just ask me!
In two days, i will be in Irland for the congress of Labour Youth. It is in Gailway and i am a speaker in a workshop on Israel - Palestine. More info on the blog of Graham O' Manaigh, the International secretary of Labour Youth.
