The scandal of Housing in France

A dramatic series of fires killed more than 50 people just in the last two weeks. 26 killed in a fire Rue de Provence, 17 killed boulevard Vincent Auriol , 7 killed in rue du Roi D'orée. Between them, 36 children and a lot of migrants. These drama reveals the crisis of housing in Paris and in France, the lack of social housing in the main cities, and the discriminations the migrants or the colored people are victims. The consequence of this crisis of housing is a large amount of people living in a very dangerous condition. Just in Paris, 1000 apartments are considered as non-safe by the municipality.
The lack of social mixity is also a huge problem. The government of Lionel Jospin adopted a law which require each city to have, at least, 20% of social housing. But a lot of cities didn't respect this rules and pay a bill instead of building new social housings. (Nicolas Sarkozy, the interior minister, was a champion for this : Neuilly Sur Seine, the city he was mayor during 18 years old only has 2% of social housing...).
The only answer of the Right government is a scandal. Nicolas Sarkozy just propose to close the buildings considered as non-safe, without providing any kind of solution to host the people expulsed. Last friday, the first expulsions were done by the police.
On saturday, nearby 10 000 people demonstrated against the policy of housing of the governments. Together with MJS France comrades, i was at this demonstration. MJS France also signed two calls (one of DAL, the other of SOS Racisme and Emmaus) together with NGOs, trade unions and left parties to ask for strong measures to avoid a new drama and to solve the crisis of housing.
